Please Help

Posted by Mandy at 7:08 AM
If I ever needed help in blogworld, it is now. I've created a website for our dog pound, though it won't be just for dogs in the pound.. it will eventually be for nearly every homeless dog in our area. For now.. just the pound and the dogs I'm fostering.

The link is: www.searkdogadoption.weebly.com and I would greatly appreciate any and all of you posting about it, putting up a permanent link on your blogs, ANYTHING to spread the word.

The pics of the dogs are not right now what I want them to be, but time was not my friend so quick shots through the kennels had to do. I plan to go back and get the dogs out for better pictures, but I will need mucho help. There are so many of them and only one of me.

We really need to try to help these poor dogs find homes. The city does what it can with our pound, but it's not a happy place to be. No grass, dirt, sun, or warmth. Concrete floors and freezing temperatures are what each of the dogs on this website are faced with day in and day out. My heart aches each time I leave with one or two dogs and yet cannot take them all. Please, please help!! Anything you can do to advertise for this website will be greatly appreciated. If even one of these sweet dogs can get a home because of our community pulling together for the cause.. it will make me very happy.

I'd be happy to put up your site on my blog! I'll do it in the next day or so.

WOW! Thanks for all of your hard work! I really think getting their pictures out will help. What is the adoption fee? I didn't find that info on the page.

Anon - who are ya? lol

As for the adoption fees.. it totally depends on the dog. Not on the breed, but on what vet work it has had. I pay for almost all of the vet bills out of pocket.. it gets very costly, so adoption fees are necessary for me (and others) to be able to rescue the next dog. I would have had to stop after the first one without them!

If you see a dog you are intersted in, email me about that one specifically and I can give you a much better idea on the fee. :)

Get them on petfinder, too, with links back to the website. The shelters where I volunteered got so many more adopters in through petfinder than the websites. Even if I couldn't get a great picture or detailed write-up (ie, we hadn't done a temperament test yet), I put them on there if they weren't obvious "red zone" dogs and it never hurt. Websites are great, but petfinder helps get them much needed traffic.

There was once a litter of huge puppies and the staff was sure none of them would go next to the smaller dogs. The day I got them on petfinder a rescue group from hours away called and took them all to rehome, so again I say, use petfinder. The time is worth it.

Good luck!

Thanks! I'm a huge Petfinder fan already... I do put all of my fosters on there and am starting to put our pound pups on there as well. It is AMAZING how many we've adopted through them. I've sent one to MA, and one is soon to go to Vermont!! Crazy! :)

So how do you "send" them to Vermont or somewhere!?!

You know I am just loving what you have done....your website reminds me of the Heart Gallery...for DOGS! :)
