Yes, I am... still

Posted by Mandy at 5:15 PM
Doesn't it always happen right around the 6 month mark? The oh so dreaded, "Are you still nursing him?" Okay people... this isn't directed to ANYONE that reads my blog, so don't feel attacked lol.. but I'm getting this more and more from some family and even STRANGERS! Sheesh! Mind ya biz-nez! I just don't get it... the AAP says babies should be breastfed for one year... The WHO (World Health Organization) says TWO years is the minimum to shoot for... so what's up America?! And what am I supposed to do... wean him from the breast to buy formula for the next 6 and 1/2 months? Seriously? Why? (yes, this is what people think you are SUPPOSED to do.. weird) I found a shirt online that says in big bold print "Yes, I'm still nursing" for babies.. I'm so gonna buy it in the next few months! lol Just a heads up you all... don't be shocked if I'm still nursing a while from now. I shoot for about two years... yeah, I'm in serious "pervert" "weirdo" "sicko" land there aren't I? I figure it goes well with my cosleeping, organic buying, no spanking, baby wearing, no crying it out self... might as well throw as much 'weird' stuff together in my parenting bag as i can, right? I think my new responce to anyone who thinks it's strange that I'm still breastfeeding now is going to be, "wow, if you think it's weird now, you're really going to be freaked out to see this when he's 5!"

People said and asked me so many weird things when I was pregnant, so I can only imagine...

I hated getting that response! And yes, it started about 6 months! And it was mostly my mom! But after a few more months I didn't get any more comments. Stick to your guns! LOL. I nursed Cayson for 13 1/2 months...I wish it would have been longer. But I allowed him to wean naturally and it was such a pain free transition. I think with this one I'm gonna shoot for longer, though!

Has it really been 6 months??? Where has the time gone?!

I dont see anything wrong with breastfeeding, but I had a few family members who just wouldnt rest until I chose NOT to breastfeed-they actually didnt win-but I didnt breastfeed-when that milk came down-oh my goodness I was in so much pain I couldnt put my arms down, little long someone touching them.I have a TON of respect for you and I think you should do exactly what is best for you and Samuel and everyone else can just mind their own.Okay maybe it is a bit of a soapbox issue for me....LOL

ah, the nursing issue! i long ago became "off my rocker"...you know, homeschooling, grinding my own wheat berries to make my own bread, nursing children till 15 months, having more than 3 children.....and the list goes on. come join the crazy folks, girl!

well, I told Brandy Files once I was going to buy her a shirt that said "IF I DON'T ASK YOU TO PAY FOR THEM, FEED THEM, SCHOOL THEM, OR RAISE THEM DON'T WORRY ABOUT HOW MANY KIDS I HAVE."

Sounds like I need to get you one that says, NO, you cannot go next, these are for the baby!!!

Imagine the looks you'd get with that one...

Oh Oh Oh, I want a shirt like that, too! ;-)
Do what's best for you! I cried when my daughter weaned herself at 10 months. I nursed the next two until they were 18- and 22-months old. My youngest is 8-months and going strong. No one says anything about it anymore. ;-) They're scared of me, I think!

You need to do what is best for ya'll. I don't think that it is terrible unless mothers do it out of laziness (Shelley knows who I'm talking about). I don't think that it is so much the age for me but just the thought of teeth. I didn't breast feed any of mine, but that was what was best for me. I hate when people asked me "You're not BREASTFEEDING?" like I had commited a mortal sin or something. It's probley the same people that now think that it is time for you to stop. I'm with you why can't they mind their own biz-nez. But I have to admit that at the age of 5 if he's still breastfeeding I'm going to have a look on my face (I'm not very incospicuous sometimes), but I won't ask!! LOL
